Couples counseling is the therapeutic process in which a romantic partnership works together with a therapist towards a common goal. We each bring our own perspective, life experiences, pain, joy, likes, and dislikes into our relationships. Couples counseling is not simply sitting in front of a judge to determine who is right or wrong. The process focuses on exploring, understanding, and shifting the negative cycles we find ourselves in.
Though there are a number of reasons that a couple chooses to seek counseling treatment, common issues and concerns brought into couples counseling include (but are not limited to):
- Fighting without resolution
- Mistrust or loss of trust
- Problem with cohesion
- Pending or threat of divorce, separation, or the termination of the relationship
